Fresh Fish and Frozen Feet

I am currently visiting my boyfriend in his hometown which is farther up north and a little hillier. For lunch we ate lots of fresh sushi/sushi-mi that his father and uncle made. We had salmon, tuna, sea urchin, salmon eggs, mango, etc. Also we had some raspberry wine and chocolate covered popcorn. It was fantastically delicious! However, my stomach was not very happy (to say the least) on the seven mile run shortly after lunch. It is safe to say the raw fish and hills don't mix very well. It was a struggle to run up the hills and keep the food down... but I made it. We ran around a park with duck pond and a sledding hill. It was nice to run outside again but my lungs are now reminding me that cold air + mucus = cough-cough-coughing. Luckily my next run I will have access to a gym so everyone can breath a little easier (especially my lungs).

The Tire with a Hole

I ran three miles today to make up for the millage I didn't run on Wednesday. My boyfriend and I were driving to the gym, but we quickly realized that one of the car's tires was completely flat. So we had to take it to a tire shop and walk back home to get a different car. By the time we finally got to the gym it was two hours later. I wanted to run on the treadmill but I must have lost my headphones somewhere so I had to run on the track. It was very boring because this track has eight laps to one mile; after 24 laps you start feeling a little bit like a gerbil. Also, I never really know where to look when I pass the same people over and over again. If I look at the people I feel creepy, but the people are the only mildly interesting thing to look at. I hope I stop coughing soon so that I can start running outside again.

Burn Baby Burn

Yesterday I ran three miles at the gym but I forgot my headphones so it was more of a struggle. I did not run on Wednesday, but I have a good reason!!!

Story time:
On Christmas Day, my family was having breakfast with all my sisters, all of their boyfriends, and some tenants. I stood up and when I sat back down again I knocked my boiling cup of tea into my lap. It hurt very very bad instantly. I was wearing sweatpants so the hot tea was being held onto my skin. To avoid getting even more burned I just took my pants off, .... in front of everyone. The worst part is that nobody understood what was going on, so to them it just looked like I randomly in the middle of breakfast started yelling and took my pants off. Ultimately I had second degree burns on my pelvis and upper thigh, my skin was very reddish-yellow and very blistered. I didn't want to run because I was afraid the friction would rub the blisters open. Nothing says Christmas like second degree burns!! ;P

The story of the stinky shoes

I went to the gym ready to do four miles, but in the middle of the run I remembered I only needed to do 3! So that was a pleasant surprise! I ended up running the last mile much faster because I had plenty of energy left. After my run I stretched a little and did two weight machines while I waited for my dad to finish.

But back to the the story.
So, a few weeks ago I participated in a half marathon; I ran, I sweated, and I conquered. Then, I took a running hiatus until I started my training program for the marathon last week. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about my shoes. Since I run in my vibram five fingers, my shoes get really smelly, especially after my races. The shoes don't really smell bad when they have dried but once you "moisten them again", aka sweat them up again, they smell really really bad.

Long story short,
my shoes smelled really bad today because I ran six miles in them on Saturday and haven't washed them since my half marathon. I didn't really think anything of it until I noticed that everyone who got on the treadmill next to me, left after a minute or so for a different treadmill. Now, it is possible that the machine wasn't working, but there was someone using it fine before I got there. Lucky for me I can simply put them in the washing machine; which I will do right after I finish this post.

So there you have my awkward stinky smelly shoe story. :P

However, on the the positive note, I tried a different type of treadmill today and didn't fall at all!!!

A Rainy Gym Run

I feel really guilty that I didn't run on Wednesday and Thursday; but finals are finals, and after staying up till seven in the morning, sleeping is simply the top priority. Therefore I was determined to go running today but without a buddy to keep me accountable, my motivation was steeply declining. So I asked my dad to go to the gym with me, and he said yes! I decided to run on the treadmill because I get unnecessarily competitive when I run on the track. I ran six miles at an easy 10 min miles because I am still sick (coughing, headaches, general feelings of icky-ness). Picture below for proof!  But I think the pace a little too slow because I tripped five times! I also experimented with listening to music and it was actually enjoyable. I think when I run inside I need music, but outside it is just a distraction. My next run is scheduled for Tuesday but I might work ahead and run it on Monday depending on holiday plans and the weather. Yay!

Start of the program!!

Today I ran a steady three miles at the gym with a friend. I have been sick for the past week, so I took it slow and didn't time myself. If I time myself then I start worrying about how slow I am going which makes me run too fast. I probably should not have run at all, but how can I skip the very first run of the training program? I am worried about running tomorrow and Thursday if I continue to feel this ill. I guess we will have to wait and see.
